Hi Bloggers,
It’s Father’s Day! June gloom! How many of you have messages from Dad that still impact you today? In Transactional Analysis Dr. Eric Berne says that our “Parent” ego state is defined by the messages and recordings from our Parents. One of the messages I hear in my head that make up my personality is “Be Respectful”. I know that there are many messages that people might decide to ignore. Example: You should be a doctor like your father. Maybe, You’re going to be a good cook like your mother. When in fact you hate cooking. You don’t want to be a doctor. The bottom line is we have all sorts of messages from our Parent Ego State.
“The basic ego-state model is readily understood by children from early school age onwards.” “TA’s simple language helps in the learning process.” So what do we do or not do when we make these discoveries? Make an appointment with me to help you identify these messages. Talk to Cathy if you want to learn more about basic TA and it’s benefits to your personality. If you want to grow or change this information is valuable. Remember, the better you know who you are the better you can relate to others.
The quotes in my blog are from a great book called TA Today, by Ian Stewart and Vann Joines
I realize that everyone didn’t receive healthy messages. Perhaps they were painful, but there is a way to work through them.
All the best,
Cathy
